Learn our story of how we came to provide science-backed personalized training to athletes and coaches—everywhere.

See how we’ve provided a critical response to a major gap in performance-based training by focusing on one key aspect: people.
Their story begins in high school, when they were dedicated and driven athletes that lacked access to expert training—and this experience would unknowingly fuel the creation for Volt later on. They later became roommates, with Dan working as a strength coach and Trevor working in technology. As with most great innovation, the idea for Volt emerged from necessity: as Dan struggled to efficiently create training programs for his athletes in Excel, Trevor stepped in to help. Combining their expertise, they developed a unique technology that evolved into a comprehensive platform, making elite-level strength and conditioning accessible and affordable for all.
This strategic move enables Volt to integrate physical training with mental wellness solutions, serving nearly 2 million individuals worldwide. Dan and Trevor’s personal experiences as athletes and coaches have driven them to create a tool that not only generates quality workout plans for any performance-driven individual but also empowers coaches of any kind to provide tailored, high-quality programs at scale. Their journey from high school friends to co-founders and industry veterans is a testament to their dedication and innovative spirit.

Dan is passionate about building innovative technology that helps people perform better and live healthier, happier lives. He co-founded Volt in 2011 and has been a CSCS-certified strength coach for over 15 years. Dan taught masters-level Sport Performance at the University of Washington and earned his Masters in Sport Administration & Leadership from Seattle University. He also holds a BA from Colby College, where he played football for the Mules. Dan lives in Seattle, enjoying walks around his neighborhood, road trips through the PNW, and snuggling with his part-time cat, Cocobolo.
Trevor loves building technology to solve hard problems and improve lives. Born and raised in the PNW, Trevor grew up hiking, playing football and lacrosse, and sailing the Puget Sound. As an adult, his experiences climbing Kilimanjaro and Everest base camp taught him that hard things are worth doing. He earned a B.S. from Pepperdine University, where he captained the Men’s Lacrosse team, and co-founded Volt in 2011 with Dan. At Volt, Trevor led the development of Volt’s proprietary AI, Cortex®, and has stayed dedicated to his Volt training program for over a decade. Trevor lives in Seattle with his wife and two daughters.
