Boyd Epley

Chairman of the Advisory Board

Considered the “Godfather of Strength and Conditioning," Boyd Epley served as the University of Nebraska’s head strength coach for 35 years and founded the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in 1978. According to ESPN, “Epley is arguably the single most important individual in the history of strength and conditioning in college athletics.” Epley returned to Nebraska in October 2014 as the Assistant Athletic Director for Strength and Conditioning and currently oversees the department he built.

Mike Favre

Strength Coach Advisor

Mike Favre is the Director of Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning at the University of Michigan. In his 18 years of experience, Coach Favre has worked extensively with collegiate, professional, and elite international athletes. In 2011, Coach Favre was named the NSCA College Strength Coach of the Year.

Justin Smith

Strength Coach Advisor

Justin Smith is the Associate Director of Athletic Performance at the University of Vermont (UVM). He oversees the strength and conditioning for men’s and women's ice hockey, and men's and women's alpine and Nordic skiing.

Devan McConnell

Strength Coach Advisor

Devan McConnell is the Head of Hockey Performance at UMass Lowell. Prior to this newly developed position, Devan served as Director of Sports Performance at UMass Lowell, as well as a strength coach at both Stanford University and Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning. A native of Lake Stevens, Washington, Devan resides in Massachusetts with his wife, Erica, and their two children, Finnegan and Dublin.

Mike Nitka

Strength Coach Advisor

Mike Nitka was the long time Director of Strength and Conditioning at Muskego High School in Southeastern Wisconsin. With 35 years of experience, Coach Nitka has been frequently honored for his contributions to the field, including being voted the NSCA High School Strength Coach of the Year in 1996.

Patrick McHenry

Strength Coach Advisor

Patrick McHenry is the Director of Strength and Conditioning at Castle View High School, and a National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Board Member. In 2005, he was selected as the NSCA High School Strength Coach of the Year, and has received the Strength of America Award from the President's Council on Fitness every year since 2010.
